Enabling Geolocation Tracking for Multiple Consent Objects

You can enable geolocation tracking for Purposes, Collection Points, and Preference Centers to capture the data subject's location when they provide consent. The Enable geolocation tracking setting must be enabled on the Collection Point or Preference Center to automatically populate a data subject's geolocation for each Purpose that has the Enable Geolocation setting enabled within the Collection Point or Preference Center Builder. If disabled, the Collection Point or Preference Center will not send any geolocation information.

Geolocation data will be available in the Reports module, on the Data Subject Profile screen, and on the Receipts screen. For more information, see Creating a Report, Viewing Data Subject Profiles, and Viewing Consent Receipts.

Things to Know

Geolocation tracking can be enabled for OneTrust Hosted Web Form Collection Points, OneTrust Embedded Web Form Collection Points, and Preference Centers. The following table details expected outcomes based on which consent objects have geolocation enabled.

If the Enable geolocation tracking setting is enabled on the Purpose and enabled for the Collection Point / Preference Center:

The Collection Point / Preference Center will send geolocation information.

  • If the Enable geolocation tracking setting is enabled on the Purpose, by default it will be enabled for the Purpose the next time it is added to the Collection Point / Preference Center.

If the Enable geolocation tracking setting is enabled on the Purpose but disabled for the Collection Point / Preference Center:

The Collection Point / Preference Center will not send any geolocation information.

If the Enable geolocation tracking setting is disabled on the Purpose but enabled for the Collection Point / Preference Center:

You have the option to enable geolocation tracking per Purpose on the Collection Point / Preference Center to override what is configured on the Purpose.

The Collection Point / Preference Center will send geolocation information for the Purposes where the Enable geolocation setting is enabled in the specific Collection Point / Preference Center.

  • If the Enable geolocation setting is enabled for the Purpose of the specific Collection Point / Preference Center, it does not need to be enabled on the Purpose Details screen.

To enable geolocation tracking on a Purpose

If the Enable geolocation tracking setting is enabled on the Purpose, by default it will be enabled for the Purpose the next time it is added to a Collection Point / Preference Center. Once published, the Purpose will start capturing geolocation on Preference Centers and be updated on selected Collection Points. However, the Enable geolocation tracking setting must also be enabled for the Collection Point / Preference Center in order to capture geolocation information.

  1. On the Universal Consent & Preference Management menu, select Purposes. The Standard Purposes tab on the  Purposes screen appears.

  2. Create a new Purpose or select an existing Purpose in the Name column. The Purpose Details screen appears.

  3. In the General Information section, enable the Enable geolocation tracking for this purpose setting.
  4. Click the Save button. Then click the Publish button to use the Purpose within Collection Points and/or Preference Centers.
    Note:

    If you are publishing a new version of the Purpose, Preference Centers will automatically be updated. You will then be able to select which Collection Points to update with those changes.



To enable geolocation tracking on a Collection Point

  1. On the Universal Consent & Preference Management menu, select Interfaces > Collection Points. The Collection Points screen appears.

  2. Create a new Collection Point or select an existing Collection Point in the Name column. The Collection Point Details screen appears.

  3. Navigate to the Settings tab, and enable the Enable geolocation tracking for this collection point setting.
  4. Click the Save button. Then click the Publish button to update the Active version of the Collection Point.

To bulk enable geolocation on active Collection Points

  1. On the Universal Consent & Preference Management menu, select Interfaces > Collection Points. The Collection Points screen appears.

  2. Select the check boxes next to the Collection Points for which you want to enable geolocation tracking.
  3. Click the Enable Geolocation button.


  4. The Enable Geolocation modal appears with a message stating that new versions will be created for the selected Collection Points.


To enable geolocation tracking on a Preference Center

  1. On the Universal Consent & Preference Management menu, select Interfaces > Preference Centers. The Preference Centers screen appears.

  2. Create a new Preference Center or select an existing Preference Center in the Name column. The Preference Center Details screen appears.

  3. Navigate to the Settings tab, and enable the Enable geolocation tracking for this preference center setting.
  4. Click the Save button. Then click the Publish button to update the Active version of the Preference Center.
