Creating Risk Matrices in Custom Insights Dashboards

You can create a risk matrix visualization within custom Insights Dashboards using the Risk Matrix data table combined with the matrix visualization. This visualization can be created to evaluate risk metrics based on both impact and probability.

Note:

The risk matrix visualization will only contain risks that have been created with the Risk Matrix scoring methodology. If another scoring methodology is used, the visualization will still use the colors from the risk matrix, dependent on the impact and probability combination. Risks using standard scoring methodology are not included in the risk matrix.

CAUTION:

The video below uses Color Code when applying conditional formatting to the background color for count of risks. OneTrust now recommends selecting Conditional Color in lieu of Color Code for the What field should we base this on field value. For more information, see step 8 in the To create a risk matrix visualization procedure below.

Applicable Data Sources

The risk matrix visualization can be added to custom Insights Dashboards created with one of the following data sources:

  • PIA & DPIA Automation

  • Data Mapping Automation

  • IT & Security Risk Management

  • Third-Party Risk Management

  • Privacy

  • Governance, Risk, Compliance

To create a risk matrix visualization

  1. On the Reports menu, select Dashboards.

    The Dashboards screen appears.

  2. Click the link in the Name column for the custom dashboard you want to build.
  3. Click the Context Menu icon and select Edit Dashboard. panes appear.
    The Filters, Visualizations, and Data
  4. On the Visualizations pane, select the Matrix visualization type.
  5. On the Data pane, select the following metadata to include in the visual.
    • Rows section: Impact Level

    • Columns section: Probability Level

    • Values section: Count of risks

  6. Expand the Filters pane and locate the Filters on this visual section. Drag-and-drop the Type (Inherent/Residual/Target) field from the Data pane to the Add data fields here box in the Filters on this visual section. You can then select the check box corresponding to the type of risk by which you want to filter the visual.

  7. On the Visualizations pane, navigate to the Values section and click the arrow corresponding to Count of risks. On the menu that appears, select Conditional Formatting > Background Color.
The Background color - Count of risks modal appears.

  8. Configure the Background color - Count of risks modal as detailed below.

    Field
    Description
    Format style

    Select Field value.

    Apply to

    Select Values only.

What field should we base this on?

Select Conditional Color from the Risk Matrix > Attributes table.

    Summarization

    Select First.

  9. Click the OK button. The matrix visualization will update to align with the color code of the risk heatmap. Then click the Save button.
