Creating Slicers in Custom Insights Dashboards

You can create slicer visualizations on custom Insights Dashboards to filter the data that appears across all other visualizations on the corresponding dashboard tab, including other slicers. As you choose values across multiple slicers, the other slicers and visualizations will be filtered to include only the data that intersects those selected values, allowing you to filter down to just the data that meets the filter criteria you selected in your slicers.

Note:

Object-based tables: If you are trying to create visuals and slicers for objects with custom attributes, please reference the To create KPIs/visuals for object-based attributes procedure within the Using Object-Based Attribute Tables for Custom Insights Dashboards article instead.

To create a slicer visualization

  1. On the Reports menu, select Dashboards.

    The Dashboards screen appears.

  2. Click the link in the Name column for the existing custom dashboard where you want to add a slicer or create a new custom dashboard.
    Note:

For more information on creating a new custom dashboard, see Creating Insights Dashboards.

  3. Click the Context Menu icon and select Edit Dashboard.
The Filters, Visualizations, and Data panes appear.
  4. On the Visualizations pane, select the Slicer visualization type.

  5. On the Data pane, select the check box corresponding to the data that you want to use for the slicer. This could be any relevant field that you need to filter by. Once selected, the data will appear in the Filters on this visual section of the Filters pane and the Field section of the Visualizations pane. The slicer visual will also update to reflect the selected data.

  6. On the Visualizations pane, click the Format your visual icon to customize the appearance of your slicer. On the Visual tab, you can modify various settings, such as how the options of the slicer display under Slicer Settings and customize various formats, such as how the font, color, and background color of the header and values appear under Slicer header and Values. Additional formatting options are also available on the General tab.

  7. Drag-and-drop the slicer visual to the desired position on the dashboard. You can resize and adjust it as needed to fit alongside other visualizations.

  8. Interact with the slicer to ensure it filters the dashboard data as expected. Make adjustments if necessary.
  9. Click the Save button.
    Note:

Slicers work best with smaller sets of options, so using thousands of values as a slicer is not recommended. If needed, consider displaying the values in a table instead.

Slicers with a large number of values uses lazy loading and does not display the full list immediately. When using slicers for many values, you must scroll to load the remaining values.
