Creating Data Asset Relationships

Using Data Catalog, you create relationships between multiple data assets or multiple terms at once using the Create Relationships bulk import template.

To Create Data Asset Relationships in Bulk

When creating data asset relationships in bulk, it is recommended that you copy and paste the data from an exported data asset report into the template spreadsheet. To learn more about exporting data asset information, see Configuring Data Assets.

  1. On the Global Settings menu, select Import Templates from the Data Import section.

    The Import Templates gallery appears.

  2. Click the Download button on the Create Relationships template. A template spreadsheet file will download to your device.
  3. Open the Create Relationships spreadsheet file.
  4. Configure the fields. For more info, see Bulk Create Relationships Field Reference.
    Tip:

    For columns that feature only a few specific updates, take an export of your existing data assets and fill in cells that do not currently require an update. If there are columns that feature no new updates, delete them from the import template. If you upload a template with blank cells, the information will be overwritten in your data dictionary as blank.

    Important:

    Refer to the Options sheet in the Excel export for available source object types, relationship names, and target object types.

  5. On the Global Settings menu, select Bulk Import from the Data Import section.

    The Bulk Import screen appears.

  6. Click the New Import button.
    A New Import modal appears.
  7. Complete the fields. For more info, see New Import Modal Reference.

Enter the source object ID

Enter the source Object Type.

Relationship Name

Enter a relationship type.

Target Object Name

Enter the target object name.

To Add Data Asset Relationships within the Application

CAUTION:

The following is a preview feature and will have to be enabled in your account

  1. From the Data Catalog menu, select Data Dictionary.

    The Data Dictionary screen appears.

  2. Select the Data Assets for which a relationship needs to be created.

    The Create Relationship button appears.

  3. Click the Create Relationship button.

    The Create Relationship modal appears.

  4. Fill in the Relationship Type and choose the direction. Then click Save.
Note:

This can also be done from the Child Objects tab for a Data Asset to define relationships between Child Objects.
