Getting Started with Cookie Consent

OneTrust Cookie Consent allows your organization to do a complete discovery of the cookies, local storage, and tags that are currently being offered on your website. This provides insight into the ways in which your organization is capturing a site visitor's personal information when they browse your site.

You team can use this information to build a site banner and preference centers that allow site visitors to directly control which categories of cookies can capture and process their information.

This guide will help you get with the initial setup of and implementation of Cookie Consent. You will be able to create a Cookie Banner, Preference Center, and Cookie list and configure them for specific legal frameworks. These elements can then be tested and placed on your website.

To Implement Cookie Consent

  1. Scanning a Website

You will need to scan your website to determine which cookies are being dropped. This is done from the Websites screen.

  2. Categorizing Cookies

The cookies will need to be categorized based on their function. The category a cookie is put in will determine how it is handled. This is done from the Categorizations screen.

  3. Creating Website Templates

When you have categorized the cookies on your site, you will need to create a Template for the Cookie Banner, Preference Center, and Cookie List. This is done from the Templates screen. There are pre-configured templates to support compliance for the various consent frameworks.

  4. Creating and Assigning Geolocation Rule Groups

Once you have created a Template, you will need to use that Template to create a Geolocation Rules Group. These settings will allow you to comply with consent requirements based on region, country, or state. This is done from the Geolocation Rules screen. After you have defined your Geolocation Rules Group, you can then assign it to your Domains.

  5. Implementing the Cookie Consent Scripts

Finally, you will need to implement the Cookie Consent script on your website. This is done from the Scripts screen. There are separate scripts for the Testing and Production environments.
