Visualizing Cross-Border Data Transfers
Using Data Mapping Automation, you can view a map that shows cross-border transfers of data based on information from your related inventories. You can create
A cross-border data transfer may include multiple inventories that serve distinct purposes in separate locations. In addition to location attributes, the Cross-Border Map is populated based on how transfers are related to inventories that facilitate them. The transfer lines, which represent the cross-border flow of data, are plotted based on the specific relationships you've defined between your inventory records. For example, a transfer line will show data flowing away from an asset defined as Storage/Processing and toward another asset defined as Destination/Access.
Inventories with a location attribute defined as Global or Unknown will not populate a transfer line.
For more information on relationships between assets and processing activities and how to configure them, see Creating and Managing Contextual Relationships and About Inventory Linking and Relationships.

To view and confirm potential relationships
Potential transfers populate on the map any time a processing activity (known as a context processing activity) has related source assets with a different hosting location than its related collection assets, or has related collection assets with a different hosting location than its related destination assets.
Example Scenario
Process A has a Source asset of MongoDB hosted in Australia and a Storage/Processing asset of Snowflake hosted in the United States.
- disabled
-
If Potential Relationships is, no connection displays from Australia (MongoDB) to the United Stated (Snowflake).
- enabled
-
If Potential Relationships is, a dotted line from Australia to the United States displays. You can then confirm or reject the new relationship and its details.
-
If confirmed, the new relationship populates and a solid transfer line displays on the Cross-Border map. Process A is considered the contextual process of the transfer.
-
If rejected, the line disappears from the Potential Transfers interface and the Cross-Border map altogether.
