CDATA Data Source Certification Guide (Internal)

Important:

This article is only visible to OneTrust employees. Do not distribute this with prospects or customers, nor share on screen as it contains sensitive product information.

The goal of this article is to demonstrate the general certification process for OneTrust teams to determine whether the CDATA JDBC driver will work and provide value to customers/prospects. This process is demonstrated below using Jira as a sample system.

As more drivers are tested and known to work, internal team members are encouraged to contribute their findings by reaching out to their respective leads, Data Discovery R&D leads, or technical writing via JIRA documentation ticket. This will allow our sales and marketing teams to add additional logos in customer-facing content in confidence and raise better awareness of our data source support.

Before you begin

  • Concerning Authentication: each system's authentication requirements will be unique and the associated JSON will vary depending on the chosen method's requirements. Check the CDATA driver documentation for details. With a Jira example, this could be a Personal Access Token or OAuth 2.0.

  • Validating Data Models: check the CDATA driver documentation for the specific system and review the Data Model section to learn more about the behavior of each relevant, stored object, (e.g. tables, schemas, procedures).

    Attention:

    Any object that requires WHERE clause to get data is not supported.

Instructions

  1. Go to CDATA.

  2. Check if the driver exists for the data source you are trying to scan. In this example we are searching for Jira.

  3. On the data source's overview screen, click the Free Trial icon. The Driver & Connector Download screen appears.

  4. Choose a driver to download.

  5. Click the Docs icon to view the available technical documentation for the driver.

  6. Select the associated JDBC driver documentation. The CDATA page on JDBC connections appears.

  7. Navigate to Getting Started > Establishing a Connection to learn how to create a JDBC data source and verify the connection properties to building a connection string.

  8. Update your vault credential to support the given system's authentication method in accordance with your organization's allowed standards. The following example is the required update format for Jira.

    JSON
    {
    "driver_class_name": "cdata.jdbc.jira.JIRADriver",
    "connectionUrl": "jdbc:jira:URL=\"https:\/\/datadiscovery.atlassian.net\";User=\"<username>\";APIToken=\"<token>\";RTK=\"\""
    }
    Note:

    For additional information on adding credentials to worker nodes, see Credential Vault Options for Data Sources.
