Data Explorer Feature Guide
OneTrust is aware that some clients may not be able to immediately access this feature upon release. If your tenant has Data Explorer but the Results table is empty, this could indicate a required update is still in progress for your tenant. Please contact OneTrust Support for additional assistance.
The Data Explorer menu in Data Catalog empowers you to explore the patterns and correlations in your data and to better gain insights on what kinds of sensitive information and risk has been discovered across data sources. The visualization tool offers various filters, saved views, and an option to create custom data policy to identify groups of data assets that should be monitored for compliance violations.
Filtering the Data Explorer Screen
There are two methods of dynamically updating the Data Explorer screen.
- Filter Dropdowns
-

- Charts
-

|
Category |

Only tags assigned to at least one asset will appear in the dropdown. For more information on how to set up tags for categorization, see Creating & Managing Tags in Catalog Glossaries. |
Using Multiple Filters and Chart Selections
The use of filters and charts has unique behavior concerning AND/OR conditions to help populate data.
-
If a filter dropdown and a single chart segment are used together, the chart will display data using an "AND" operation. This requires that both selections have a match in order to show data.
Example: If you select one data source and one term, results are filtered to assets that are in the selected data source AND have the selected term assigned.
-
If a filter dropdown and multiple chart segments from the same chart are selected, the chart will display data using an "OR" operation. This results in the chart showing data that can match either selection and is not dependent on both segments.
Example: If you select on data source and two terms, it has to be in the selected data source and contain at least ONE of the two selected terms.

Hover over a label to display the count of each specific term, classification tag, or category tag found in all the discovered assets in the data source.
A plus sign with a number means there are additional terms/tags not shown. For example, this column includes the terms State and First Name with +5, for a total of 7 terms. This means that an aggregated total of 7 terms were found for this entire data source.
Use the Quick View option to open the basic details of the data source. You can easily review details about the data source, any applied items, copy the xpath location, or open the Data Dictionary view in a new window to fully inspect all details about the data source.
