Inheritance Settings: Things to Know

Inheritance settings offers a way to promote standardization and streamline the maintenance efforts associated with keeping a group of similar, local versions up to date.

Things to Know

Auto-Update Attributes

  • Attributes configured as Auto Update are details that should be kept standard across all local versions and are typically defined at the master record level.

  • When an attribute configured as Auto Update is modified on the master record, all local versions will automatically receive the update.

  • When existing inventory records are linked to a master to create a local version link, any attributes configured as Auto Update will be automatically over-written on the local version with values from the master record.

  • Attributes configured as Auto Update cannot be modified at the local version level. Any attribute questions mapping to an Auto Update attribute will display as read-only in assessments launched on the local versions and the fields will be read-only on the Inventory Details page of a local version. Additionally, any attempt to update an attribute configured as Auto Update on a local version through bulk import or public API integrations will be ignored and the update will not go through.

  • If attributes configured as Auto Update are deactivated and then reactivated in the attribute manager, the attribute will automatically be set to Override upon reactivation.

Override Attributes

  • Attributes configured as Override are details that may vary across local versions depending on factors such as local laws and jurisdiction.

  • Attributes configured as Override can be modified on the local version level and updates made to these attributes do not affect the master record or any other local versions.

  • Attributes set to Override will continue to be editable on assessments for local versions.
