Integrations Terminology Guide
The following terminology is used throughout OneTrust's Integrations module and documentation.
Field |
Description/Use |
|---|---|
Apply to Each |
A contained logic step informed by previous actions to repeatedly loop tasks through a nested set of system- or OneTrust-based actions. |
Connection |
Synonymous with workflows and wizards. Refers to the organized process to send, receive, or exchange data across OneTrust or with external systems. |
Data Transformation |
A contained logic step that adds the ability to perform calculations, update dynamic values, and manipulate data without executing a specific action within the workflow. This can be helpful for aggregating information inside an apply to each sequence and then sending the combined payload in a single action upon completion of the sequence. |
Detailed Logs |
Captured messages with unique event IDs to help users analyze outcomes and troubleshoot issues. Each individual workflow execution is considered a message. |
Do While Loop Logic |
A contained logic sequence to ensure nested actions are executed at least once so users can specify the conditions when the loop execution should cease. This is commonly used with Apply To Each logic for pagination uses. |
Message Container |
Also referred to as the Dead Letter Queue, this is where messages are retained in the event of a halted workflow. Users must choose a reprocessing method or purge them. |
FreeMarker |
Refers the Apache templating language that allows for data manipulation and scripting in workflows to support dynamic values. |
Gallery |
A collection of pre-built integrations templates provided by OneTrust to assist with many common business applications across the platform. |
Logic Action |
Condition-based actions that help users design intelligent workflows to solve for if/then scenarios and reduce administrative work with automation. They can perform tasks like email sending, file creation, data creation or updates, according to the results of previous actions. |
Message Header |
Failure cause of a message seen in detailed logs. |
OneTrust Action |
Specific to each module, these options are provided by OneTrust to perform actions inside the application based on results from previous actions. |
Reprocessing Method |
When messages are held in the Message Container because they are failed or pending, you can choose to either reprocess or purge them before resuming the workflow. Settings for reprocessing are available in each workflow's Details tab. |
Scheduler |
An initial action of a workflow that can be configured to trigger at scheduled frequencies, such as hourly, daily, or weekly. |
Subflow |
A contained logic step in a single location for reuse in other OneTrust workflows, which allows the integration to perform complex actions such as nested apply to each logic that otherwise cannot be easily configured within a single workflow. This supports the integration with additional actions steps to improve asynchronous execution by performing a logic sequence through multiple steps to improve batch processing. |
System Action |
Specific to the chosen external system, these options are provided by OneTrust to accomplish tasks for data retrieval, deletion or modification in the integrated data source. |
Systems |
The external systems intended for integrations that are provided by OneTrust or created by users. |
Trigger |
The first event that activates the integration. Triggers can be initiated from either module-specific events (e.g. audit task created), schedules, or on-demand API calls. |
Values |
Custom values in OneTrust Integrations allow users to specify and call unique data type information globally across platform. Different from dynamic values which are specific to a given workflow, these values can be easily referenced from an action's Request body versus having to copy/port string values across the application and into the Integration Builder. |
Webhook |
An initial action of a workflows that allows users to create a unique URL to send data to and from an external source. |
Wizard |
A guided creation experience provided by OneTrust to set up an integration. |
Integration Builder |
The interface for selecting and configuring actions to assemble a complete integration workflow. It is organized in a linear fashion, starting at the top with the first action (trigger) and then proceeds down the screen to sequence the actions. |
Workflow |
Synonymous with connections. Refers to the organized process to send, receive, or exchange data across OneTrust or with external systems. |
