To add a custom classifier

In this example, we're creating a credit card classifier with several sub-classifiers that represent various credit card brands and types. This allows us to set specific metadata settings and discovery patterns for each sub-category in this classifier with their own conditional settings, which will enable the classification service to more precisely detect the data we're looking for.

  1. On the Data Discovery menu, select Classifiers. The Classifiers screen appears.

  2. On the Classifiers screen, click the Add Classifier button. The Add Classifier - Enter Classifier Details screen appears.

  3. Enter a name and description for the new classifier.

  4. In the Glossary Term field, select an existing glossary term to map discovered data to shared terms used across the OneTrust application.
    Note:

This field can be updated once the classifier is created in the Details tab of the Classifier Details screen.

For more information on creating new terms to be used with Data Discovery's classification service, see Athena Glossary.

  5. Click the Next button. The Column Metadata Details screen appears.

  6. Enable the Column Matching Required setting to only apply this classifier when the metadata is an exact match.
  7. In the Condition block configure the criteria for metadata matching. Click the Add Condition Block button to stack criteria for stricter matching requirements.

    Types

    Description

    Contains/Does Not Contain

A value that is a substring of column name (ignoring only Case).

    Equal To/Not Equal To

A value that is the same as column name (ignoring only Case).

If a column name has an underscore, then the value would also need it.

    Starts With/Ends With

A value that start or ends with a certain column name.

    Length

Requires an operator (equal to, greater than, less than, etc.) and an Input value.

    Matches

A combination of Equal or Contains (if you manually supply the wildcards).

This option also attempts to compare the columns by stripping non-character values like numbers or underscores.

  8. Click the Next button. The Add Sub-Classifiers screen appears.

  9. Complete the fields for the classifier. For more information, see Add Sub-Classifiers Screen Reference .
  10. Click the Add Sub-Classifier button to stack sibling classifiers to this classifier. These can be configured simple to most complex as your strengthen the discovery patterns methods to ensure the best possible data sample matches.
  11. Click the Save button. The Classifier Details screen will appear for you to review and edit the group details as necessary.
  12. The new classifier will appear in the Classifiers screen.
