Mobile & OTT/CTV Consent: Best Practices

Mobile/CTV Apps Menus and Sections

The Mobile and CTV Apps are easy to scan and categorize from the Mobile App and CTV App sections on the Cookie Consent menu. You can easily set up Banners, Preference Centers, and Privacy Disclosures and configure them for specific legal frameworks, then add these elements to your application for testing and production environments.

Scanning SDKs and Setting Categorizations

Once your .ipa or .apk file has been scanned, the results of the scan can be viewed after selecting your Mobile App name from the Mobile App screen. From here, you can select the Details, Scan Results, and Activity tabs to drill down into the specifics of the scan.

Under Details, you can find out specifics about the app and scan, including the name, platform, organization, geolocation, published status, new SDK count, the old SDK count, scan status, and permissions count.

Under Scan Results, click on the Overview, SDKs, and Permissions tabs to find out more information about the scan.

Under Permissions, you will find Device Details, Device Hardware, Location, Network, and Unknown.

For information on how to conduct a scan, see:

Regarding categorization, you will categorize SDKs in the same way as cookies are categorized. The categories will be enabled based on the user preferences. For more information on categorization, see Viewing and Categorizing Mobile App Consent Scan Results.

Customizing Banner and Preference Center Templates

The set up of mobile templates for Banners and Preference Centers is similar to the process conducted for Cookies web browser configurations, just enable the Mobile App or CTV App platform view to display those options for mobile templates. You can customize the layout, styling, content, and behavior of your Preference Center and Banner templates. This allows you to create a look and feel that matches your organization's branding style and behavior preferences.

For more information, see Customizing the Mobile App Consent Banner Template and Customizing the Mobile App Consent Preference Center Template.

For CTV templates, the process begins when settings up a new template. The setting CTV App Template is available once the initial set up of the template is complete. A confirmation modal will appear to permit configuration of CTV App Templates.

For more information, see Customizing the CTV Banner Template and Customizing the CTV Preference Center Template.

Mobile/CTV Geolocation Rules

Geolocation Rules allow you to control what site visitors will see based on their location. You can set up Geolocation Rules that determine the consent model, behaviors, and content that will be shown to site visitors from certain locations. You must have at least one rule that defines the default behavior to use when no other rules apply.

Note:

This feature allows your Legal Team to set policy for your company once and be enabled automatically. Role based access can be enabled to control who can edit Geolocation Rules.

You can configure consent settings by defining the Template and Consent Model to use in specific geographic regions. You can also determine if consent records will be collected and the behaviors that will close the cookie banner. If you are using IAB TCF, you will need to decide which IAB vendors you use by selecting a vendor list. By default, the Global IAB Vendor List is assigned as the Vendor Version List.

Assigning Rules to Mobile/CTV Apps

In the Assigned Mobile Apps tab and the Assigned CTV Apps, you can select which Geolocation Rules to assign to a specific Mobile or CTV application.

For more information, see Configuring Geolocation Rules for Mobile App Consent.

Publishing Mobile SDKs

The Instructions tab includes a reference implementation and assistive information that will be required for download and testing on your sample app.

On the SDK tab, you can select between the available implementation SDKs and an appropriate API version. The included sections contain additional guidance as to what to expect and do for the SDK download.

Click the Publish button to review preference and version options for your SDK, and when you're ready with all changes, publish the SDK to a test or production. For more information, see Publishing OneTrust SDKs.

Download the SDK Package

Once you've published the SDK, you can import the unzipped SDK file into your application project to begin SDK implementation.
