App Tracking Transparency User Journey Configurations
With the release of iOS / iPadOS / tvOS 14, App Tracking Transparency framework requires permission from the user before any tracking of advertising and analytic purposes is performed. OneTrust customers can leverage the OneTrust SDK and the configurable Pre-Prompt and Settings Prompt for App Tracking Transparency (ATT) to improve their conformance to this regulation. See Apple's framework documentation for more information.
Through working with mobile app industry leaders, OneTrust has captured some of the common user journey configurations that we see used often with the OneTrust SDK.
For more information on the configuration options available on the OneTrust platform, see Configuring App Tracking Transparency Prompts for Mobile Apps. For more technical information on how to implement this with OneTrust SDKs, see the OneTrust SDK Portal.
If you are using a WebView for app functionality, it should be treated the same way as native functionality in your app, unless you are enabling the user to navigate the open web.
Scenario 1: No Banner + ATT Not Determined
When the SDK is called, the ATT Pre-Prompt will be shown when the banner is set to false and the ATT permission is not determined. The user is required to select continue to show the iOS ATT prompt, from which they can choose to allow or disallow tracking.
Scenario 2: Show Banner + ATT Not Determined
When the banner is displayed and the user accepts the given categories, the iOS ATT Prompt will be shown if the ATT Permission is not previously given. This allows the user to choose to allow or disallow tracking. This flow is commonly seen for mobile apps which adopt the "Opt-In" model.
Scenario 3: Show Banner + ATT Given Previously
This flow moves forward if the banner is shown, categories are accepted, and the ATT Permission is given. No additional action will be required from the user.
Scenario 4: No Banner + ATT Given Previously
In this flow, no action or prompt displays if the banner is not shown and the ATT permission has been given prior.
